Son Servera opened in 1973 , and it is the second oldest on Mallorca . The course curves above the Mediterranean , with mountains to the north drenched in pine forest and the deep blue of the Mediterranean stretching away to the south .

The course has been upgraded considerably in the years since Stefano Bortolotti ’ s arrival but one of its key selling points has always been its location . Spectacular surroundings are there for all to see during your round , with the bay of Cala Millor sparkling just out of reach . Even when you are playing the holes famously known as ‘ The Pine Trap ’ you will have the mountainous region of Mallorca on full display . Given the challenges these holes present those views may be an unwanted distraction because The Pine Trap is something rather special .
Son Servera is also known for its hospitality and its food . They have awards to prove it . Most of the people who work at the club are locals who have been with the club for many years . It adds an air of authenticity and genuine connection … something valued greatly by the 600 members who play their golf here . The majority of visitors come from Germany , followed by France , the Nordic countries and the UK and Ireland and all are treated with that same hospitality . It helps , too , that Mallorca is becoming increasingly attractive as a golf destination .
The course was developed in two stages ( nine greens were recently replaced to ensure that all 18 now have common characteristics ) and when you play here you will discover there are different rhythms to the holes . And that is down to the terrain . The Pine Trap ( holes 3-7 ) is undoubtedly the signature stretch , but there are holes on lower ground close to the sea as well as holes that rise higher towards the pine clad mountains .
The natural setting includes olive , carob , pine and palm trees and there are five lakes to navigate during your round . It makes this a pretty course and a popular one , too . There were 41,000 rounds played in 2019 . The club proudly proclaims to be ‘ The Home of the Pine Trap ’ and embraces it in a similar fashion to the Bear Trap at Florida ’ s PGA National . In Florida , holes 15 to 17 make up the famously testing stretch of holes named for their difficulty but also in honour of Jack Nicklaus .
