• However , you should pay careful attention to your navigation during windy weather on open waters .
• You will be required to view a video before departure , which is time well spent .
• Fishing licences are required for all cruising areas except Carrick . The charge for a licence is about 7 euros per week .
• To cruise on the Shannon-Erne waterway you will need to buy a smart card to operate the locks , which are available at all bases and cost approx € 13 for 20 units .
• Locks and bridges on the River
• Shannon cost approx € 1.50 each .
• Lifejackets must be worn in the locks .
• Locks are closed on some public holidays .
• In smaller harbours , boats often moor up alongside each other .
