Stretching across 360 kilometres ( 224 miles ), the Shannon River is Ireland ’ s largest river which is enjoyed by a massive community of boating enthusiasts every year from May to October . The river flows generally southwards before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean at the Shannon Estuary and is named after “ Sionna ”, a Celtic goddess .
