HOLE 11 : SCOTLAND , Askernish Old , 197 yards . A round at this long-lost Old Tom Morris design on the Hebridean island of South Uist , is the kind of place where you can imagine the Scottish golfing forefathers striding the sheep-cropped turf with their hickory shafts and a pocketful of gutta perchas . The standout 11th is played over a deep gully to a large green and directly into a sea breeze , and when you stand on the tee of Barra Sight , it looks like you ’ re hitting straight into the Atlantic Ocean . www . askernishgolfclub . com
HOLE 12 : ENGLAND , The London Club ( The International ), 190 yards . The London Club ’ s International course features several daunting shots over water , including the nerve jangler from the 12th ’ s elevated tee . The hole plays over a large lake to an elongated green held back with boards that sits sideways to the tee . Trust your club selection and swing , or this par-3 could be a real card wrecker . www . londongolf . co . uk
HOLE 13 : ENGLAND , Dunstanburgh Castle , 127 yards . One of the best moments on this 1877 Northumberland links arrives at the 13th aptly named Castle - where the ruins of the 14th century Dunstanburgh Castle form an atmospheric backdrop , framed perfectly on a clifftop beyond the green . A sweetly struck 8 or 9-iron should do the trick on one of the most evocative short holes in the British Isles . www . dunstanburgh . com
HOLE 15 : ENGLAND , St Enodoc , 168 yards . There are many terrific holes on this classic Cornish links and the 15th is one of the best , offering wonderful views of the Camel Estuary from the tee as you prepare to hit off . A deep ravine lies between the tee and the green on this beautiful downhill par-3 , and anything slightly mishit or under-clubbed is destined to be in the bottom of it . www . st-enodoc . co . uk
HOLE 13 : SCOTLAND , Glen Golf Club , 148 yards . Every hole of this East Lothian clifftop links offers spectacular panoramas and different perspectives of the Firth of Forth and iconic Bass Rock . The course is typified by the signature 13th , simply known as the Sea Hole . With the North Sea crashing against the rugged coastline below , it calls for a blind tee shot over sand dunes to a green guarded on three sides by the beach and rocks . www . glengolfclub . co . uk
