More than 12 million U . S . golfers will take a golf trip in 2024 , for the third year running
Just ahead of the 15th annual NAC at BOYNE Golf in Michigan in June , it was interesting to read the National Golf Foundation ’ s update on U . S . golf travel . In 2023 , 12.2 million U . S . adults took a golf trip , which represented 4.7 % of the U . S . adult population . Numbers are expected to exceed 12 million in 2024 for the third year running . Of course , only a small percentage travel to golf destinations outside the USA , but the actual numbers are significant and the spend per person is generally very high , making the outbound U . S . market highly sought after by golf destinations that attract their interest .
Costa del Sol focuses on the North American market
For the third year running , Costa del Sol Tourism has been focusing its attention on both the US and Canadian markets , capitalizing on the demand from American golfers for golf destinations in Europe outside of the links courses of Scotland and Ireland . 67 % of 13 million US core golfers plan to take a golf vacation in the coming 12 months which is 30 % higher than pre-pandemic levels . This presents a great opportunity for established golf destinations such as the Costa del Sol with good access to the US eastern seaboard .
Andalucia and Costa del Sol stake their place at the heart of European golf travel
Next week , nearly 800 IAGTO members will descend on Malaga in the Costa del Sol to participate in only our 2nd European Convention . The tourism boards of Andalucia and Costa del Sol , not only supported us last year to get IEC up and running in Marbella for the inaugural convention , but have also stepped up once again this year to ensure that IEC secures its place as the most affordable , productive and enjoyable golf tourism event in Europe .
