There are more tours and tastings at Bayou Terrebonne Distillers in Houma , Wildcat Brothers Distilling and Parish Brewing Company in Lafayette , where we also enjoy dinner and live music at Bon Temps Grill , and Baton Rouge ’ s Tin Roof Brewery and Oxbow Rum Distillery , where jambalaya , fish , meat pies and BBQ beans also go down a treat .
In historic Franklin , we tuck into tasty , fresh beignets at Lamp Lighter Coffee House , followed by a tour of the town ’ s fascinating Shadowlawn Plantation .
On the Cajun Coast , we dine on home-cooked fare at Morgan ’ s Restaurant in Morgan City before our early start to go fishing for largemouth bass along the waterways of the Atchafalaya Delta . Setting off in three speedboats , we cast our lines close to the trunks of cypress trees growing out of the swamps , all managing to catch at least one fish and in one instance almost landing an alligator that follows a fish to the boat as it is being reeled in .
No visit to southern Louisiana would be complete without heading to Avery Island , home of Tabasco sauce . The McIlhenny family has made the world-famous pepper sauce here for five generations and it makes for a fascinating tour .
