Writer Cup Challenge
In the amicable spirit of the event , the loosing team Captain said that the Irish team is “ not welcome back ”. The Writer Cup is an annual Challenge golf match between golf journalists in Ireland and Northern Ireland , competitive yet fun , hosted by Tourism Northern Ireland .
Many of the competitors see this grudge match as a “ must win ”, allowing bragging rights for a full 12-months .
It ’ s also an ideal opportunity for Tourism Northern Ireland to show case some of their golf and accommodation options . The golf courses for this 2-day event were Dunmurry Golf Club and Massereene Golf Club .
In 1983 , Dunmurry Golf Club moved from its original location north of Dunmurry village to a site overlooking the River Lagan and adjacent to Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park . With views up the Lagan valley to the south and north towards the Belfast hills , the course merges into the woodlands comprising the Lagan Valley Regional Park . Dunmurry has matured quickly and now provides some of the best playing conditions in the Belfast area . The 18 holes offer a variety of challenges , none more so than the par 5 fourth , requiring three accurate shots to reach an elevated , double tiered green , the approach to which is well protected by mature trees .
After golf , both teams transferred to the Europa Hotel , our official venue which is superbly located in the heart of Belfast City centre , the world famous 4 star Europa is the place to stay in Belfast . The hotel is one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in Northern
Ireland and is renowned for its cosmopolitan buzz , prime location , and superb facilities . Over the years , it has attracted many famous guests and celebrities from all over the world and many guests return again and again to enjoy its famous hospitality .
