The San Roque Club
Set in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja near Sotogrande, The San Roque Club stands as one of the Costa del Sol’ s most prestigious golf destinations. Opened in 1990, the club is centred around the characterful Domecq mansion and set within 340 acres of rolling Andalusian countryside, where cork oak forests and gentle elevation changes create a tranquil yet testing environment for golf.
The acclaimed Old Course was designed by Dave Thomas and later refined by Seve Ballesteros. Known for its tight fairways, strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens, it demands accuracy and thoughtful shot-making. The layout carries significant pedigree, hosting 15 consecutive European Tour Schools from 1993-2007 and the Spanish
Open in 2005, cementing its reputation at the highest level. The Old Course underwent a massive renovation in 2020 and 2021, with a design philosophy to construct a stadium course in anticipation of hosting major European championship events.
It is fair to say that The San Roque Club holds a place in the heart of many a European Tour professional who come to take advantage of the outstanding conditions, but the course has been designed so that both low and high handicap players can enjoy their game. Blending heritage, design and modern standards, San Roque offers a refined and rewarding experience for all levels of golfer.
