DESTINATION GOLF SCOTLAND 2025 2026
Mar Hall
This is parkland resort golf at its most enchanting. The course was designed by Dave Thomas and opened in 2010, playing across a charming 240-acre estate. Located 15 miles west of Glasgow city, it is set beside the River Clyde and in the shadow of the Erskine Bridge. Earl of Mar flows around 250-year-old sweet chestnut and beech trees with holes from both loops of nine pressed up against the river’ s edge. It is wonderful stuff and it is laced with playability thanks to big spaces and generous fairways. Big also describes the beautifully contoured greens which sway gently and are a joy to putt on. The elaboratelyshaped bunkering, which helps to define holes, was fully restored in 2024. A new irrigation system was also introduced to improve playing conditions and add to the lushness of the course.
The lack of elevation changes makes this a pleasure to walk and, despite this being a modern design, it is not overly long, which enhances its playability for everyone. Given its location, Mar Hall is an excellent place to base yourself to explore the many quality golf courses in the region.
