Boat of Garten
Boat of Garten was laid out by James Braid , in 1898 . Located 30 miles south-east of Inverness , it has long been regarded as one of Scotland ’ s prettiest courses , which is no surprise when you see the Cairngorms rising above the avenues of trees . You will not be taxed in terms of length ( 5,900 yards , back tees ) and your driver could easily be left in the car , but Boat of Garten demands accuracy to find tight , rambunctious and electrifying fairways bounding between silver birch and pine trees . Now throw in some heather and broom for added colour . Every hole is enchanting and the terrain has considerable undulation – think trampoline – to increase both the course ’ s beauty and drama . Holes drive uphill and down , with often tricky approaches to small tilting greens cleverly perched . An absolute joy to play and keep an eye out for steam trains .
