One of the joys of Brora is that at 125 years old little has changed since the original design … so , you won ’ t find any fairway distance markers . It encourages you to use your head , and so it rewards your heart . This James Braid course is all the better for it and Brora is one of his greatest legacies as well as one of the greatest gifts to lovers of links golf . Dunes roll and sway in hypnotic rhythm like a swelling sea , with holes flowing up , down and in between . The course is a traditional out and back affair and , as at nearby Royal Dornoch , the greens are spectacular . A small burn slides across the middle , heading towards the bay , and it creates some intriguing challenges , especially as you will find yourself blind from time to time . Always hit for what you can see and save your best swing for the 200-yard par-3 18th .
