Ben Hogan played Panmure many times in 1953, and, in his efforts
to match the speed of the greens to those at Carnoustie, he
asked head greenkeeper William Falconer to cut the grass on the
17th green to a specific height. Falconer invited Hogan to cut it
himself… which he did.
