Welcome Welcome to Destination Golf Scotland Golf Guide 2018 It is my pleasure to present the second edition of Destination Golf Scotland, featuring 100 incredible golf courses in one of the most respected golf destinations around the World. In preparation for this guide, our team visited all four corners of Scotland across the last 2-years. Arriving by ferry, our first trip took us from Stranraer up the stunning Ayrshire coast to Prestwick, Troon and Irvine, before going inland to Glasgow. For our second trip, we flew into Edinburgh to visit the plethora of golf courses in East Lothian, to the East of the Capital. We teed it up at some, but visited wonderful courses like Longniddry, Craigielaw, Gullane, and Luffness New, reaching as far as Dunbar. We then drove north into the Heartlands to visit courses around St. Andrews and Dundee, stopping at the many Championship venues like Carnoustie along the way. Our third visit saw us fly into Aberdeen to visit courses in the North East. Driving along the east coast countryside, we stopped at some amazing courses like Royal Aberdeen, Newburgh-on-Ythan, Murcar Links and Cruden Bay, reaching as far as Fraserburgh. For the last leg of this trip, we then drove into the Highlands taking in many stunning courses like Nairn Dunbar, Castle Stuart, Fortrose & Rosemarkie, Tain and Royal Dornoch, before flying out of Inverness. Scotland, known as the home of golf, boasts many unspoilt courses that are hundreds of years old, with clubhouses full of old memorabilia and history. Old Tom Morris and James Braid designs spring up quite often. In fact, golfers can now even play along a “James Braid” golf trail in the Scottish Highlands. More recently, professional golfers Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie have been driving forces of Scottish Golf. Scotland is home to over 600 courses, where you can play links golf on stunning courses with beach and cliff features, high on mountain tops, on the edge of lakes or through dense forests. In this guide we have chosen one hundred great golfing options for the travelling golfer, but keep an eye out for our “recommended” logo, which we think you’ll enjoy best for this year. Enjoy Scotland, and the mystical adventures that it takes you on. Dermot Synnott Publisher, Destination Golf Media Ltd.
