Longniddry A course that comfortably combines sandy links soil with parkland traits of tree-lined fairways… and it all comes together beautifully as it sits on the shoreline of the Firth of Forth. The clubhouse sits up high and offers sweet views over the course and out to sea. It whets the appetite. On the opening stretch of hilly parkland holes accuracy is essential as you move between the embracing trees and tackle some mischievous bunkers. By the time you reach the 11th you’ll likely have forgotten that there’s a links element, but this is when it arrives with a crash as you play alongside the sea. There is not one par five but with eight of the 14 par fours stretching over 400 yards (from the back white tees) the par of 68 is utterly deceptive. Yes, it’s a demanding course but it is also hugely enjoyable to play (wait for the driveable 320 yard par four 5th) and the green fees are certainly good value. 88
