Praia D’ El Rey
Boasting one of the most idyllic natural settings of any golf course, Praia D’ El Rey is set between the sea on one side and forest and hills on the other. This course stretches over dunes and between pine trees, forming an enchanting, natural backdrop on one of the sunniest stretches of the Portuguese coast. The course is full of surprises: on the 2nd hole, you play with a view towards the nature reserve of the Berlengas Islands; on the 13th and 15th, the Atlantic Ocean is your constant companion; while, on the signature par-3 14th, golfers have to contend with the changing moods of the wind, the roar of the ocean and the beauty of the flora-laced dunes. This is a must play when in the Oeste region, and the views from the clubhouse make it the perfect place to wind down after your round.
Bom Sucesso
Located on the Silver Coast, this Donald Steel course opened for play in 2008, and it is a strong test of golf. The 18-hole, 6,228-metre par-72 championship golf course stretches along the length of the resort, embracing the hotel and spa, and other leisure facilities. The gently shaped front nine gives way to far more undulating fairways on the back nine, with a truly dramatic closing stretch rising high above the hotel and clubhouse. The greens can be undulating so smart approach play is required. The course is always in good condition, greens roll sweetly and the bunkers have a rugged and intimidating look, a fair warning to avoid them. The course benefits from naturally beautiful surroundings and has panoramic views to keep you company for the round.

Designed by the exceptionally talented Cynthia Dye, West Cliffs is a rare Portuguese ocean-side course laid out over curving dunes, which rise to great heights on the back nine. It is managed by Praia D’ El Rey, so that comes as no surprise. The landscape is blessed with rolling sand dunes layered with coastal vegetation and pine groves overlooking the ocean from above. This is where the wild west of Europe meets the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, and playing here is a mesmerising experience.
