Quinta do Lago South
Located close to Almancil , in the heart of the Algarve , lie two of Quinta do Lago ’ s three golf courses . The 6,500 metre par-72 South Course was designed by William Mitchell , in 1974 , and remains a magnificent , must-play course for all visitors Set in a pine forest , with small swelling hills guiding fairways , it has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times . A multi-million euro investment saw the South closed in 2020 , to enable significant renovations . Sustainability was a goal throughout the project , working close with Golf Environment Organisation ( GEO ). Water management was a key element of the changes made with new Irrigation Pumps being installed along with enhancements to the existing system – giving greater control and saving precious resources . All bunkers were refurbished , lakes upgraded and fairways reseeded . Along with other improvements the course re-opened in late 2021 . The acclaimed gem of the Algarve is now shining more brightly than ever … helped in no small part by a comprehensive refurbishment of the clubhouse .
