Golfasian and Go Golfing show us around what may be the coolest amateur event that’s open to almost everybody playing golf today. When I first read about the Centara World Masters Golf Championship, it was this line that jumped off the page and into my imagination “Play world class golf courses with all the trappings of a major professional tournament.” “Cool” I thought, but then… “I don’t have the game for that.” I was wrong. With handicapping and Stableford competition by age, nearly anybody who plays a little or a lot can experience the thrill and pampering of this event. Before I get too far in, I want to make one definitive statement. Leaving northern climates to golf in the tropics in June just as the golf season at home is warming up, may seem counterintuitive, but this event just may change that thinking. And what an event it is. My Preview… Wow, Wow, and Wow. Ok not great prose but this is all that comes to mind every time I think of the last four days previewing this year’s Centara World Masters Golf Championship. I have attended and participated in quite a few amateur and professional events over the last 3 decades, but only last week did I come to learn about what a bunch of very happy traveling golfers have known for years. At the risk of sounding like a gushing newbie promoting just another commercial event, I will go out on a limb here and say this event is fun. A lot of fun. As jaded as I probably am about golf events (I often find the worst excuses to avoid them) this one offered some intrigue as it has been around so many years and is one of the few things actually growing in numbers in the golf world today.
