Scotland is blessed with many stunning links
courses that are designed by legendary names like
James Braid, to more recent household names like
Montgomerie or Torrance. Links courses dot all along
the coastlines, but there are links courses, and there
are Championship links courses. On any golf holiday,
it’s always a good idea to incorporate a famous world
class links into your itinerary, as you will experience
at Prestwick Golf Club.
The Club itself is located in the town of Prestwick,
South Ayrshire, approximately 50 km from Scotland’s
largest city, Glasgow. Situated on a stretch of golfing
terrain unrivalled in the world, Prestwick is less than
a couple of hours travel from all the other Open
Championship courses in Scotland and is a must play
for any discerning lover of the game.
Prestwick is world famous as the initial originator
and sponsor of The Open Championship, the oldest
of golf’s four major championships. The Open
Championship has been staged at Prestwick on 24
occasions. Contested over the unique links layout,
each running of golf’s oldest Major added to the
charm of the event.
Prestwick has also staged the Scottish Amateur
Championship on eight occasions and can boast
three champions as members - JM (Morty) Dykes in
1951, WD Smith in 1958 and KW Macintosh in 1979.
