of pine and jacaranda trees there is lots of character, especially with raised greens providing delightful targets. Two of the holes play right beside the Mediterranean, adding to the course’s appeal. Font del Llop, Alicante This is a sparkling new golf resort, opened in 2010. It was designed by the Stirling&Martin team who introduced 18 very different greens, with their own distinct personalities. Located in the heart of the Costa Blanca, the resort offers luxury across the board, but it is the golf course that lures many. Set in a steepsided valley the course also boasts a small river which runs through the course and comes in to play from time to time. There are five tees so it appeals to golfers of all abilities. Sherry Golf Jerez, Cadiz A languid pace, generous, undulating fairways and greens, and bunkering and water features all add to the relaxed rhythm of Stirling&Martin’s design. It follows an American style without too many harsh slopes, so the course is accessible to all golfers. Located just 10 minutes from Jerez Airport (and 50 minutes from Seville) there is an additional nine hole par three course. The vast and impressive clubhouse offers a welcome way to end a round of golf. The Global Golf Company lives up to its name, operating private and resort operations in Spain and Morocco, while also designing golf courses through Stirling&Martin in a further seven countries (Argentina, Cuba, Russia, Dominican Republic, Ukraine, Poland and Romania).
