Greenore

Greenore sits on the Cooley Peninsula, curving around Carlingford Lough, where an old, raised train line mirrors the shape of the beach below. Four tee boxes sit up here, promising tempting shots to the fairways and greens below, as well as views down the lough. Take a moment and enjoy everything around you. This is mostly a level, open course which introduces some links undulations close to the sea and armies of matchstick-like pines soaring above holes closer to the clubhouse. Farther out, gorse and small stands of conifer draw the eye but, before you swing, always seek out the water features, which are scattered about.
Some are tidal, some are not; some are obvious … and some are not.
Greenore is a masterclass in managing the wind. Yes, with the space on show you can open the shoulders and enjoy a big day with the driver – the par fours have good length to them – but it doesn’ t come with a‘ Get out of jail free’ card, so be wary. The course’ s bunkering has recently been remodelled and, along with other changes, it enhances the course’ s linksy feel.
FAVOURITE HOLE
The 132-yard par three 6th is your first walk up to the old railway line. Lap it up.
WHAT’ S IN THE BAG?
