Enniscrone
2018 saw Enniscrone celebrating 100 years . The course has had an intriguing history and the changes made by Donald Steel to Eddie Hackett ’ s work , in 2001 , put a stamp on Enniscrone ’ s reputation . That reputation has been growing ever since . It is an exceptional links flowing through big dune country and overlooking Killala Bay .
The course demands your full attention the whole way around as fairways constantly mirror the shaggy dunes they run through , promising unpredictability , while the perfect greens promise all kinds of dangers around their pristine putting surfaces . You ’ ll encounter some startling blind shots and several unbelievable holes . The stretch from 12 to 17 is utterly captivating and you will be tossed around by the constant swell of the landscape to the point you ’ ll feel dizzy . Combined with Carne , Co . Sligo and Strandhill , links golf doesn ’ t get better than this . The course is being invigorated with changes by Martin Ebert .
FAVOURITE HOLE
Holes 12 and 13 are two short par fours , with both of them set to make you look a fool … but the joke ’ s on Enniscrone , because you just won ’ t care .
WHAT ’ S IN THE BAG ?
Trust your instincts on the blind holes and use bump-and-run where possible . This is not a course where you want to go over the green .
