DESTINATIONGOLF . TRAVEL 2025
Ring of Kerry
The golf course at Ring of Kerry opened in 1998 . With its hillside lilt – the front nine are on much higher ground than the back nine – you won ’ t be surprised to hear that the views are endless and spectacular , with the Greenane Islands a central focus in Kenmare Bay below , as mountains ripple across every horizon . You also won ’ t be surprised by the big shots that take full advantage of the elevation changes and views . Tee shots on the 6th , 8th and 13th are of the ‘ floating in space ’ variety as you wait for the ball to touch down .
This is a parkland that is coming back to its best after languishing unloved for a few years . That ’ s the advantage of new ownership and new attitudes , and the course is already thriving . The upgraded clubhouse , helps , too . So too the quality of the greens and you will have an entertaining adventure trying to read some big slopes and swings . One visit to the signature par-3 13th will make that abundantly clear .
FAVOURITE HOLE
The par four 6th plays from a high tee and the fairway below curves around a pond , on the right , with the green beyond . It is all on show .
WHAT ’ S IN THE BAG ?
The back nine requires you to rein in your ambition as fairways become more elusive due to the slopes of the land . A creative short game helps .
