Royal County Down Carne Portmarnock Icons to the Par of Three. By Kevin Markham. How often do you find yourself discussing a golf course in terms of its par threes… or perhaps just one par three? You can’t deny that all too often they take centre stage. They are usually the most memorable holes, the prettiest holes and the holes that lead to the post-round bragging rights. I imagine you’re all picturing a specific par three right about now. The ‘one-shotter’ is a staple in golf and having an iconic par three – think Pebble Beach, TPC 6 Sawgrass, Augusta, Royal Troon, Prestwick – elevates a course in many a golfer’s mind. Ireland is not lacking in the iconic par three department, so here are 30 of our most memorable short holes. Several of these receive global acclaim. To stir a little debate I have ranked these in my order of preference, something that usually causes someone to spill their drink.
