Favourite Hole: Holes 12 and 13 are two short par fours, with
both of them set to make you look a fool… but the joke’s on
Enniscrone, because you just won’t care.
What's in the Bag? Trust your instincts on the blind holes
and use bump-and-run where possible. This is not a course
where you want to go over the green.
Enniscrone
2018 saw Enniscrone celebrating 100 years. The course
has had an intriguing history and the changes made by
Donald Steel to Eddie Hackett’s work, in 2001, put a
stamp on Enniscrone’s reputation. That reputation has
been growing ever since. It is an exceptional links flowing
through big dune country and overlooking Killala Bay. The
course demands your full attention the whole way around
as fairways constantly mirror the shaggy dunes they run
through, promising unpredictability, while the perfect
greens promise all kinds of dangers around their pristine
putting surfaces. You’ll encounter some startling blind shots
and several unbelievable holes. The stretch from 12 to 17 is
utterly captivating and you will be tossed around by the
constant swell of the landscape to the point you’ll feel dizzy.
Combined with Carne, Co. Sligo and Strandhill, links golf
doesn’t get better or more beautiful than this.
