The Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions in Co. Clare.
TOURISM IN MUNSTER
Munster is the largest province in Ireland, and it has
much to offer with many of the best sights in the
country. Famous for traditional Irish music, Munster
is the heritage hub of Ireland, with Celtic castles and
monasteries found throughout the region. Ireland’s
second city, Cork, is located in the south of the
province. With a beautiful city centre, and located
near the quaint village of Cobh, it is an entertaining
place to visit. The English Market in the city centre
has existed since 1788. It offers locals and visitors
alike an extensive range of seafood and other
culinary specialties, along with that renowned Cork
charm. Co. Cork has several beautiful golf courses
with Fota Island, Cork and Old Head chief among
them, but there is quality golf across the entire
region, from counties Waterford to Clare.
The busy town of Killarney, in Co. Kerry, is a well-
known holiday destination with spectacular scenery,
ranging from the magnificent Ring of Kerry to
MacGillycuddy’s Reeks. Is it any wonder it is such a
popular place to stay? Co. Kerry also boasts some of
76
the finest links courses in Ireland, with Waterville,
Tralee, Dooks, and Ballybunion renowned
worldwide. Skellig Michael, at the end of the Ring
of Kerry, features in the new Star Wars movie
adding to the allure of this coastline drive. Farther
north lie the famous Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare.
The Cliffs are a must see attraction for all visitors,
the outstanding scenery stretching for miles along
the coast. The counties of Clare and Limerick
are home to many famous golf courses, with
Dromoland Castle, Doonbeg, Adare and Lahinch
just a few of those on offer.
Munster’s sporting tradition reaches far beyond
golf and some of the best GAA teams come from
this province. Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and Clare
counties are leading lights when it comes to
hurling, while in Gaelic football, Kerry and Cork
are the most formidable counties in Munster.
Thomond Park, in Limerick City, is the home of
Munster Rugby, and any fans of the sport should
experience a home game.
