It was back in 1975 when Woodbrook hosted the Carrolls Irish Open,
famously won by Christy O’Connor Junior. Things have moved on as
the course evolved but Woodbrook still boasts that same stunning
location on the low cliff-tops north of Bray. This is a parkland of easy
pace, smooth terrain and explosive greens. Pine trees dominate on
fairways but it still feels spacious and, when you reach the seaside
holes and the views you’ll appreciate just how spacious that is. To
the south, Bray Head dominates, while Dalkey Island and Howth
hover on the horizon to the north. These are most likely the holes
you will remember most but the two walks under the railway line
which divides the course and the classic clubhouse have plenty of
impact, too. Play in summer when the fescue grasses glow golden
and Woodbrook is a blaze of colour.
