Perhaps the best first question is to establish exactly where the region is, or what constitutes the description – Southern Africa? The term Southern Africa can cause confusion as it is sometimes used in macro terms to refer to those countries which lie south of the equator, or alternatively those countries, the UN viewpoint on this, which lie south of the Zambesi River. The latter moniker means that the region includes Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa. An alternative viewpoint is one that includes those countries linked through SADC (the Southern Africa Development Community) which expands the region, based on mutual interests in culture, security, business, sport, etc. to include; Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. We have taken the various mixes and our region is based on where the game of golf has a ‘serious’ presence i.e. Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Having dealt with the geography the next question that needs to be asked will be; ‘What does this regional bloc, which is comprised of 8 countries, have to offer the traveller?’ Family vacations at Fancourt Certainly sunshine and seemingly endless blue skies combined with some of the World’s best beaches and mountains and vast plains are de rigeur.
