will have an enjoyable day out. It is also a
lovely walk, full of wildlife, set within a typical
Algarvian valley, framed by farming fields and
hills. The 9th and 18th green both finish before
the clubhouse, providing an opportunity for a
break or nice 19th hole.
Our base was for the first two nights
accommodation was Morgado Golf & Country
Club, located in the charming Algarvian
hinterland. Located between Portimão and
Serra de Monchique, its natural landcapes,
panoramic views and sounds from local birds
offer an instant air of calm. The room was
spacious, bed comfortable, and views reached
out across the Championship course. We dined
in the buffet restaurant one day and snack bar
the other day which had a bar-food type menu
with a selection of drinks, snacks, salads and
light meals. If you have time, take a dip in any of
the four swimming pools on offer to relax and
unwind.
The next morning with took a short 20-minute
transfer back up the coast to the third golf
property, NAU Salgados Golf.
NAU SALGADOS GOLF COURSE
Designed by Pedro Vasconcelos and opened for
play in 1994, this 18-hole par-72 course enjoys
an incredible setting next to Salgados Beach,
just 10 minutes from the centre of Albufeira.
If the weather gets hot, golfers will enjoy the
sea breeze as it is located close to the ocean
and beside a nature reserve that is home to
many exotic birds. Here, almost all the holes
are flanked by lagoons and one (number 6) is
considered one of the most difficult of the
world, as it has a lot of water and is very long.
The course is generally flat, so very walkable,
with a lot of well-designed lakes, water hazards,
and palm trees. For this reason, it is a technical
course. After your game, you can enjoy the
clubhouse facilities which includes an indoor/
outdoor bar, a lovely 19th hole.
