this and unless you are flying in a super luxury
category, what is very akin to being airborne for
hours in a poor quality bus with wings stuck on
its sides.I am pleased to report that the flight
both ways with Ethiopian Airlines was blissfully
uneventful – a real compliment these days.
The cabin staff was effortlessly charming and
helpful on all four legs and the stopovers only
a minor inconvenience. My only real criticisms
would be that to compete with the best, as is
this airline’s stated goal, then they will, during
pre-take off, need to play the on board music at
a lower volume (Jazz is also an acquired taste),
vastly improve the Cloud 9 lounge facility at
Addis and ‘watch’ the food quality, which was
very inconsistent on the various legs.
The upcoming part 3 of this feature scheduled
for early in 2019, will be entitled ‘Happy
Landings’. In this piece we shall touch on some
of the wonderful vacations to be had and the
great golf courses you can play once you have
made your way South. We shall also provide
some suggestions as to how to plan and get
the best out of your stay. This experience will
provide a mix of tropical islands set in turquoise
colour seas and vast savannah and miles of
empty beaches with thundering white surf
rolling in off a deep blue ocean. It will include
the wonders of the Cradle of Humankind and
the Waterberg in the north, to the Drakensburg
and beaches of Indian Ocean in the east, with
the Garden Route flowing down to the point
where two Oceans meet in the south.
