Costa Brava
Tourism &
Golf
The province of Girona is located in
north-eastern Spain. It’s coastline is known
as Costa Brava, one of the most beautiful
areas of Catalonia and probably the whole
of Spain.
Its coast is lapped by the crystal waters of the
Mediterranean and its interior overlooked by
the spectacular and mighty Pyrenees. This
area has been a mecca for tourists since its
tourism boom in the 1950s. Girona benefits
from a combination of a very good summer
climate, 60km of coastline, natural beauty
and excellent beaches. It is often effected by
winds coming off the Pyrenees, keep the city
cool in hot summer temperatures. The town’s
airport which is located 10km away has
become a tremendous asset to the town,
as a wide range of scheduled flights bring
holidaymakers to this part of Catalonia.
Costa Brava has been welcoming golfers for
many years – and is widely regarded as one
of the finest golf destinations in Europe.
PGA Catalunya has two excellent golf
courses The Tour Course and the Stadium
course – which has been voted one of the
ten best golf courses in Europe by Golf
World magazine. It truly is a stunning place
with the Pyrenees as a backdrop, which only
adds to the magic. Emporda Resort also
boasts 36-holes (Links Course and Forest
Course) with a hotel, a spa and a golf school.
TorreMirona is another stunning golf and
spa resort – a championship course that’s
situated a few kilometers from Figueres and
a stone’s throw of the Costa Brava. Further
north is the amazing Peralada Resort,
featuring a top class course and a unique
wine spa that simply must be visited. If you
want to play the oldest course in the region
then make sure to put Platja de Pals golf
course on your golf itinerary, which also
features the 4-star La Costa Golf & Beach
Resort Hotel
