Barcelona
Golf &
Tourism
Barcelona and the region of Catalunya has,
in recent years become one of the most
popular and desired destinations in Europe.
Current day Barcelona is a thriving city for
tourism, exhibitions, sports and culture.
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the
second largest city in Spain, with a population
of 1,620,943.
Due to its perfect location on the Mediterranean
Sea, it’s fascinating Gaudi architecture, as well
as Dali’s eccentric presence to the north on the
Costa Brava, its superb cuisine, the huge variety
of leisure activities or simply the football team.
Barcelona has become extremely popular for
golf over the last few years, as private clubs
have slowely opened their doors for green fee
business. Golfers can now enjoy superb golf
courses like St. Cugat, Vilalba, Vallromanes,
Saint Vincenc de Montalt, Caldes, and
Llavaneres. Sitges Terramar is a beautiful
course on the shores of the Mediterranean.
After recent renovation works, more and more
visitors are choosing this seaside course as
one of their stops while in Barcelona. Golfers
can also play courses like Club de Golf de
Barcelona, formally known as Masia Bach
Golf Course. Designed by Jose Maria Olazabal
and founded in 1990, this very demanding
and tight course has hosted numerous
professional tournaments including the 2007
Catalonia Ladies Masters, part of the Ladies
European Tour. But the most well know course
in Barcelona must be Real Club de Golf el Prat
– which will host its tenth Open de España in
2015 – part of the European Tour. It’s 45
holes and designed by Greg Norman are set in
beautiful rolling countryside on the outskirts of
Barcelona.
