WHEN IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO GOLF IN MALAYSIA ? Malaysia is close to the equator and therefore temperatures are more or less constant all year round , hovering between 20 to 30 degrees Celsius .
The country is made up of mainland Malaysia , the Langkawi archipelago , and the island of Borneo . These experience different weather patterns and therefore the best time to visit depends on the place you are looking to visit .
While it could rain anytime in mainland Kuala Lumpur during the afternoons , the best time to travel for golfing is between the months of May and September . This is the driest time of the year when the rains are less .
The archipelago of Langkawi has stable weather all year round . Temperatures range around 32 degrees Celsius with showers occurring mostly in the afternoons . The best time to travel is between the month of December and April when there are light rain showers and more sunshine .
Johor is one of the coldest regions in Malaysia with an average daily high temperature of only 32 degrees centigrade . That said , high humidity and hot temperatures make the weather at times pleasant but also tropical humid . It is warm to hot all year round and invites you to bathe at average water temperatures of 28 degrees . On the island of Borneo golfing activities are mostly concentrated around Kota Kinabalu . The weather here stays more or less the same all year round and hovers around 30 degrees Celsius .
PLAYING ACROSS THE COUNTRY Golf is considered a rich man ’ s game to most Malays , whose average salary is about 2,000 RM a month . But by European and North American standards , it ’ s very affordable . Many clubs cost between 50-100 RM , plus a cart and a caddie , but of course , it is best to call first as rates may differ according to the day and time .
Some suggest booking a tee time in the morning as you very often have a heavy Thunderstorm in the afternoon . Again , best to call the club as each region has its own weather patterns . Whatever happens , remember the courses in this region were designed to cope with the occasional tropical downpour and drain very quickly . Enjoy .
