WEST
There are two championship
courses on the island’s west coast.
Paradis Golf Club (www.beachcomber-
hotels.com/en/hotel/paradis-golf-resort-
spa/golf) forms part of a Beachcomber
resort complex with two golf and spa
resort hotels, the Paradis Beachcomber and
Dinarobin Beachcomber. It occupies one of
the most beautiful tracts of land in Mauritius,
on a peninsula tucked between a lagoon with
white surf breaking on the reef beyond and
the imposing Le Morne mountain, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site where escaped slaves
sheltered in caves and on the summit.
An enjoyable resort golf course, five of the
back nine holes run alongside the lagoon with
one hole jutting out into it and colourful
bougainvilleas and poinsettias edge several
greens.
Tamarina Golf Club
www.tamarina.mu/golf
is a design by Rodney Wright in the
shadow of sharp-peaked Rempart
Mountain, resembling a mini-
Matterhorn. That forms a stunning
backdrop to the clubhouse and terrace
as well as several holes including the
par-4 7th and 15th.
Also noteworthy is the par-3 6th hole,
where you tee up from an elevated
tee box and hit over a river to a small,
protected green nearly 85 metres
below with another mountain rearing
up behind it. It is the longest course in
Mauritius, measuring over 6,886 metres
(7,500 yards) from the pro tees. The
Tamarina Golf & Spa Boutique Hotel is
adjacent to the clubhouse and course.
