Are You Kidding Me ?

How to Involve Kids in Your Destination Wedding

By Amy Mutscher

Maybe you and your partner already have kids together or you ’ re creating a blended family with kids from a previous relationship . Here are a few ways to include them in your wedding day .

Join the Cake Tasting
Ditch the routine and have cake for lunch . Bring your children along to the bakery or catering company to sample the flavors and make their selections .
Give a Special Gift
On the morning of the big day , present a keepsake gift like jewelry or cuff links and use the time to express how much they mean to you both .
First Dance
Some kids like being in the spotlight , others don ’ t . If yours are up for it , choose a meaningful song and take a spin on the dance floor before everyone joins in .
Unity Ceremony
A unity candle or sand ceremony is the perfect chance to involve your kids . Let them help light the candle or pour their colored sand into a glass jar to signify the family ’ s bond .
Something Blue
In need of something blue ? Select a blue flower girl dress or a blue-hued flower crown for a twist on this classic tradition . Invite your flower girl to participate in activities like a wedding shower or bridal luncheon . ◆
