Formal: Black Tie
• Tuxedos in a smooth wool fabric with silk or satin lapels
• Black is the default, but midnight blue, hunter green and burgundy also appear
• Silk or satin stripe down the outer seams of the pants
• Bowtie is customary, in black or colorful satin or silk
• White dress shirt with vertical pleats, wing collar and studs instead of buttons
• French cuffs fastened with cufflinks and cummerbund in lieu of a belt
• Black shoes in patent or highly shined leather, with black socks
Semi-Formal: Cocktail Attire
• Suits in dark fabrics in wool or cotton blend, depending on the season
• Notched lapel is standard on a singlebreasted suit
• Dress shirts may be white or pastel with a spread collar
• Long necktie that ends at the belt is typical
• Pocket square of a complementary color in silk or cotton
• Leather belt matches shoe color
• Lace-up leather shoes with coordinating socks
Resort Formal: Beachfront Best
• Casual, light-colored suit in breathable fabrics like linen or cotton
• Long-sleeve buttoned shirts with classic barrel cuffs
• No tie, open collar
