EXPERT TIPS FOR RV HONEYMOONS

The Founders of “ RV Love ” Share Their Secrets

Nobody knows more about life and love on the road than full-time

digital nomads Marc and Julie Bennett , founders of the blog RV
Love and authors of the book , “ Living the RV Life – Your Ultimate Guide to Life on the Road .” Together , the couple has been to all 50 states several times over — just follow their Instagram @ rvlovetravel for insights and inspiration . On a Zoom call from their RV in Colorado , the nomadic duo shared their tips for novice road-trippers .
Consider a Peer-to-Peer Rental Company
Peer-to-peer platforms like Outdoorsy and RV Share offer the younger demographic something more adventurous . You can get anything from a truck camper to a great big motorhome . Many can be found locally so that you don ’ t need to fly in order to rent the perfect RV for your trip .
Smaller RVs Allow for More Nimble Travel
Choose the smallest RV you can comfortably travel in — it ’ s easier to park , drive and get campsite reservations . With a smaller RV , you can get off the interstate and go on the scenic back roads . Be aware of the RV height , width and weight so you don ' t drive under any bridges that are too low .
Don ’ t Pack Too Much
A lot of people take too much stuff . As you ’ re traveling , you can stop at stores off the highway to pick up groceries and other essentials . You don ’ t need as much stuff as you think you do .
Give Yourself Time to Plan ...
Work from the same planning timeframe as a typical honeymoon . RVing was already becoming popular before the pandemic and now that people can work from anywhere , campgrounds are booking up very quicky . If you want a specific camp site , you ' ll want to have a reservation six months in advance , maybe even more .

... But Don ’ t Over-Plan
The most dangerous thing to pack is a schedule . Don ’ t schedule your trip so tightly that you don ’ t have the time to just relax and enjoy it and have that serendipity you can only really have with an RV road trip .
Take Your Pet with You
This is one of the perks of RV travel . Flying with a dog or cat is not easy and for a lot of people they ’ re part of the family . Being able to take your furry friend with you on your honeymoon is pretty cool .
Sign Up for Harvest Hosts
Stay at wineries and organic farms for free ! There ’ s no hook-up but most RVs can operate off-grid with the generator that ’ s on board . We stayed at Barrell Oak Winery in Virginia and woke up to a stunning view of vines all around us and at night as it was getting dark there were fireflies all over ! We walked down for wine tastings and there was live music .
Your Honeymoon is Training for Marriage
We ’ ve lived in RVs together longer than we lived in a house together . An RV trip is really good planning for married life . You ’ re in a much smaller space and dealing with unfamiliar things all the time , so you quickly learn to work as a team . The key to RV life is learning to be flexible and adapt , and that ’ s perfect training for a strong marriage . We ’ ve met a lot of RVers over the years who ’ ve said that their relationship has become closer living in a small space because there isn ’ t space for problems to grow .
