Shear
Load Evaluation – One Load Direction – One Fixed Edge
Figure 6.1.3a.
Reference
Figure 6.1.3a [ 50 ]. The shear load( V ua) acts towards the y- edge on row 1, row 2 and row 3. There are three anchors in row 1, two anchors in row 2 and three anchors in row 3. Assume the anchors in each row act as a group; therefore, a concrete failure surface can develop from each row.
If the spacing in the direction of V ua between row 1 and row 2( s y12) is less than c a1, row 1, ACI 318 provisions assume the failure surface for row 2 will merge with the failure surface for row 1. If the spacing in the direction of V ua between row 2 and row 3( s y23) is greater than c a1, row 1, ACI 318 provisions assume a full concrete failure surface can develop from row 3. Therefore, shear concrete breakout can be considered per ACI 318 Case 1 / Case 2 provisions for row 1 and row 3 and the shear load V ua is assumed to be distributed proportionately between row 1 and row 3.

Reference Figure 6.1.3b [ 50 ], since s y, 12 < c a1, row 1, ACI 318 shear concrete breakout calculations with respect to row 1 and row 2 are as follows:
