By not moving forward and recognising where we need to improve facilities we would be doing the pupils , staff and the deeply revered reputation of St Edmund ’ s a disservice , which is all the encouragement we need to ensure that the project is carried out with as little disruption to the day-to-day lives of the St Edmund ’ s community as possible .
If anything , we ’ re incredibly excited about the prospect of a brand new phase in the life of St Edmund ’ s . Who could have possibly known back in May 1751 , when John Pyrke was elected as the first boy to be educated at the expense of the recently formed ‘ Clergy Orphan Society ’, that over the next 265 years St Edmund ’ s would become the hugely respected educational institution that it is today ? Throughout its long and illustrious existence , St Edmund ’ s has continued to broaden in scope and size , and we see the building of an architecturally appropriate edifice as the first phase in a very positive future of redevelopment for the school .
In the very spirit of our school motto : Fungar Vice Cotis – “ Be as a whetstone for others to be sharpened upon ”, the experience of an exciting , varied and successful education for every pupil that walks through our doors is our driving force . Ensuring that our class numbers are kept small allows every pupil here access to an exceptionally high level of teaching that is fundamental to our future success now as it has been since the very first day that our story began – and for this a brand new Academic Hub is paramount . Together , we make a huge difference to the life of every pupil that embarks on a St Edmund ’ s education and we hope you ’ ll join us for the next stage of the school ’ s captivating journey .
When I joined St Edmund ’ s as a boarder , I was a bit of a miscreant , but I chose the school because of the class sizes and because of the sense of community I immediately felt here . Due to the dedication of the teachers and the relationships I ’ ve built with them , my grades rapidly improved and now , towards the end of my St Edmund ’ s journey , I am proud to be the senior vice-captain of the school .”
