BUILDING PERFORMANCE – Fabric First is the key factor in building performance. The specification of building materials for the building envelope determines the performance of the building. It dictates what else will be required( including energy) to provide a comfortable environment for the occupants.
Beco WALLFORM was designed over fifty years ago to provide strong, durable, energy efficient structures to meet the demands of different and changing environments using readily available building materials. The combination of these materials provides strength, fire, thermal, acoustic performance and flood resilience. The technical detailing eliminates thermal bridging and provides air tightness in the basic construction. The benefits apply to both basic Regulations and Passivhaus specifications.
CONSTRUCTION RESOURCES – Much is currently made of the shortages of skilled workers and the difficulty in recruiting the younger generation to the industry. The practical nature of the Wallform building process makes it easy for existing operatives to adopt the method, particularly with onsite training. The younger generation, when introduced to the system, are quick to realise what can be achieved without relying on intense training or complex equipment.
PRODUCTIVITY – The light weight of Wallform components means that materials handling and construction of the formwork system does not require much by way of tools or equipment to achieve high rates of productivity. The building process covers several building activities, enabling just a small team to be much more productive in a safer working environment.
SUSTAINABILITY – The nature of Wallform materials – expanded polystyrene( eps) and concrete – is such that materials’ manufacture is relatively local. EPS is a by product of oil(< 0.5 % crude oil) but saves many times its own energy and carbon value in a standard( 50 year) life expectancy. The carbon profile of concrete is rapidly reducing( zero carbon concrete is already available) and well on course to be carbon negative before 2050. The robust materials’ makeup of Wallform construction provides assurance on performance and extends life expectancy well beyond that of other building methods – prior to the materials being recycled.
