KITCHENS & BATHROOMS

CHOOSING A SINK FOR YOUR NEW KITCHEN

There are a number of factors to consider when choosing a sink for your new kitchen . James Cunningham , Sales Director at AGA Rangemaster , takes a look at everything you need to keep in mind .
It ’ s fair to say that sinks and taps haven ’ t always been considered the most glamorous of purchases , but a quick glance around any modern kitchen showroom will reveal a sparkling selection of finishes , shapes and materials – and that ’ s just the sinks ! They are increasingly used to set the tone and define a style for kitchen schemes , from matt black taps complementing dark cabinetry , to coloured sinks contrasting with neutral worktops . Thanks to these emerging trends and changing lifestyles , including heightened awareness of hygiene and washing hands , sinks and taps are a key element when designing ’ the heart of a home ’.
There are styles of sinks to complement all cabinetry and worktop designs , as well as a range of materials , bowl shapes and even colours . An essential aspect to consider is the type of material . Without a doubt , stainless steel models remain the most popular , accounting for more than 70 % of sink sales in the UK . We ’ re seeing demand for minimalist , geometric styles and sinks with PVD finishes in Gold or Copper – all of which provide a striking design . Unsurprisingly , these models are also attractive when paired with other metallic finishes , such as handles or lighting .
