K & H DESIGN COMMENTARY ON BRINGING IN THE LIGHT

Finding ways to bring in as much light as possible is one of our first considerations when approaching any project . There are so many ways of maximising light without reconfiguring the space . Choosing colours that enhance the available light can do just the job . Calm , serene colours work well , so long as they aren ’ t too dull or grey . Gentle yellow or pink works best for north-facing rooms , while soft greens work well with east-facing ones .
When working with a small or narrow space , it is best to keep the area feeling as uncluttered as possible and focus on one central light – either a striking chandelier or a hanging pendant . Here we have used LED tracks and spotlights to blend in with the ceiling so as not to detract from the central light . Introducing mirrors and glass will increase light , allowing it to bounce around the room . Our favourite lighting designers include Margit Wittig and Hannah Woodhouse , who we work with to create bespoke designs for our clients .
However , when clients are open to changing the interior architecture of their home , we will then open the sightlines between rooms by designing timber-framed screens , crittall doors or even double-height doors with glass panels to let the light flow through .
