68 PER CENT OF HOUSE-HUNTERS WOULD OFFER MORE MONEY FOR A HOME WITH ‘ KERB APPEAL ’

Five ways to improve it in your property
The property market is showing no signs of slowing down and with recent research finding 68 per cent of househunters would offer more money for a home with ‘ kerb appeal ’ 1 , improving the desirability of your property ’ s exterior could help to increase its value .
Although we ’ re told never to judge a book by its cover , when it comes to a house , it can be difficult to not take this old mantra on board . Clare Higgins , Product Manager at REHAU , offers her five top tips to give your home kerb appeal , ensuring your property makes a lasting first impression for the right reasons :
1 . REPLACE YOUR WINDOWS
“ There aren ’ t many updates that can make such a difference to the exterior of a home than replacing windows . In fact , 61per cent of Brits can be put off a property at first sight if they see damaged windows 2 . Although some properties may benefit from maintaining original features , updating windows in a considerate way can enhance the overall look of a property – without impacting its heritage .
“ Not only will new windows give your exterior a new lease of life , they can also help to improve the overall insulation of your property . 37per cent of Brits said double glazed windows would impress them enough to spend more money on a home , so ensure your property is as energy efficient as possible and personalise with an individual colour finish , such as a traditional Turner Oak or Slate Grey .
“ The style is also an important consideration – for example flush fit casement windows , such as the Rio range from REHAU , are a great all-rounder that can suit any property . The great thing about this range is that it provides the aesthetics of a high-end , traditional timber design , with the benefits of modern , PVC performance .”
“ For added peace of mind , particularly in locations open to the elements , consider choosing a range that boasts severe weather performance credentials , making it a durable solution that will stand the test of time .”
2 . PERFECT YOUR FRONT DOOR
“ Regardless of the size of your front garden , selecting a new front door , or renovating the one that you already have , can create a frontage that will be the envy of the neighbourhood . Interestingly , 54 per cent of Brits said a damaged front door can negatively impact their first impression of a property , so make sure yours offers a welcoming and attractive display as the gateway to any house-hunters future 3 .
