WHY ?
Simon and Ellie bought their ‘ forever home ’ in July 2019 and , after a few months of living in the space , decided to put their own stamp on the property – after all , it ’ s where they plan on raising their three young children well into their teen years .
As a chartered surveyor , it should come as no surprise that Simon had a real concept for how he and Ellie wanted the space to not only look , but function . The family were short on storage space and , as with most young families , the Williams love nothing more than having grandparents , family and friends over for dinner – pre-COVID , of course ! - so open-plan living was an obvious solution . Once they came to the decision to remove one of the internal walls between the kitchen and reception room – in the process , exposing a brick wall that Simon fell in love with when they first viewed the property the year before - Simon and Ellie worked with the team at Christopher Peters to create a plan for their dream kitchen .
" The renovation has completely transformed the main level of the home , creating a welcoming space for a busy family ."
EDITOR ' S CHOICE
The hub of the home is the kitchen and for the Williams , the kitchen island is the nerve centre . With three children , this would become a homework station , a weeknight dinner table and a place for the family to come together . Therefore , the island – painted in Little Greene ’ s shade Hicks Blue – is the focal point of the entire kitchen space . Will Lyne , Christopher Peters ’ owner and master designer , worked with Simon and Ellie to ensure the original features of the space took centre stage , including the sprung bells above the kitchen units . The slate-coloured AGA also ties the classic with the more contemporary . As all Christopher Peters kitchens are completely bespoke and hand built , both Simon and Ellie felt they could really explore their creativity and come up with a design that would stand the test of time .
HOW ?
Two designers worked with Simon and Ellie to come up with the concept for the space , with four bench joiners creating the design . Three hand painters finished the units in shades by Little Greene of Slaked Lime Dark and Hicks Blue , and Farrow & Ball ’ s London Clay , before three installers visited the property to fit the units .
Christopher Peters also designed and built a custom bookcase , which sits in the corner of the open plan dining space and houses trinkets , books and family photos .
The renovation has completely transformed the main level of the home , creating a welcoming space for a busy family .
