A MODERNIST HOME IS TRANSFORMED INTO A LIGHT BRIGHT SPACE
The owners of this home are a warm , sociable family who love to cook , so needed a space they could spend time together comfortably .
After turning to Samantha Watkins Mcrae , an interior designer on Houzz . co . uk – the platform that connects renovators with home improvement professionals – it was clear the old 1990s-style colour scheme needed to go in favour of a lighter and brighter palette .
Houzz has been an essential tool for Samantha since she joined in 2013 . She explains , “ Houzz Pro is a great platform on which to display our studios ’ work but more importantly it has allowed us to steadily grow our business with new and interesting project leads .”
This modernist home in Hampstead is just one such project that came via Houzz . When the homeowners completed their purchase before the first lockdown came into place in March 2020 , they originally planned to manage the design process themselves . But with the added pressure of a lockdown and after fully understanding the scale of the project , they quickly headed to Houzz to find a professional to assist . After finding Samantha ’ s profile they loved her design style and from reading her glowing reviews , felt she ’ d be a perfect choice .
“ The home had been really heavy , with lots of dark walls and quite masculine 90 ’ s styling ”, Samantha explains . “ They were leaving an apartment that was really bright so it was clear we needed to strip back the dark palette to lift the space ,” she adds .
