Fully glazing the gable end of the room allowed for the beautiful sea view to become a focal point of the room, while sealing one of the original barn doors created the perfect L-shaped corner for the kitchen. Additionally, this meant that the room was easily accessible from where the barn joins the main house. "Opting for Davonport’s Tillingham shaker-style furniture, the homeowners wanted to ensure the original Aga from the cottage was incorporated into the new design." KITCHENS In a room with a ceiling over 4 meters high, getting the proportions of the furniture right was essential. 3D renders of the room allowed greater understanding with regards to how much each element needed to be increased in height. Maintaining original features, such as the timber door from the gable, helped add character and charm to the new kitchen. In addition, the original Aga continued the traditional theme throughout the kitchen and is a perfect reminder of the original barn. From a practical perspective, the large pantry is the true statement piece in the room. With bi-fold doors that reveal a stunning mirrored backdrop that reflects the fully-glazed gable opposite. The pantry is the ultimate storage solution with space for storing dried food goods, concealing a toaster, and phone charging point. The final result is a breathtaking kitchen of staggering proportions. Large shaker-style cabinets surround a stunning island that features a white fantasy granite top and internal oak drawers. A pollarded burr oak bar and burnished brass accessories are a nod to the original building while everything is brought together with a classic colour palette of handpainted navy and grey creating a gorgeous coastal theme.
