KITCHENS A BESPOKE BARN CONVERSION WITH STUNNING PROPORTIONS The owners of this 16th-century timber-frame barn and cottage fell in love with the property in the Essex countryside However, the property was left in an awful state of disrepair following a storm. As a result, the whole property needed some serious TLC to help restore it to its former glory. Two decades later the homeowners decided to move the original kitchen from the cottage to the attached barn, creating a spacious room with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Opting for Davonport’s Tillingham shaker-style furniture, the homeowners wanted to ensure the original Aga from the cottage was incorporated into the new design. “The greatest challenge was working out where the kitchen was going to go, as it depended on how the internal structure of the barn was altered,” says founder and designer, Richard Davonport. 42
