Mapei’s Mapetherm System adds to the scenery
Two of Mapei’s complete
external wall insulation and
protective coating systems
have been specified and
installed on an impressive
house renovation on the coast
of Downderry, Cornwall.
Contractor and client/project
manager Jim Lockyer of
James Lockyer Associates
Ltd undertook the multi-
disciplinary planning, design
and specification of the
project. Mapetherm EPS Plus
insulation board, Mapetherm
AR1 GG insulation adhesive
and reinforcing render with
Mapetherm Net was used
over the existing masonry
construction to provide
thermal benefits.
A new timber framed structure
was added to the building and
finished with a Mapetherm
Thin Coat render only system;
consisting of Mapetherm
AR1 GG with reinforcing
mesh (Mapetherm Net) and
Mapetherm Plus System,
which incorporates Silancolor
Base Coat and Silancolor
Tonachino Plus 1.2mm applied
to a cement board.

Listed building can breathe again
After more than 60 years
as a school Grade II
Listed Moreton House in
Bideford, north Devon, has
been returned to family
ownership. The 100 room
property will offer both
holiday apartments and
function rooms.
Cement repairs and vinyl
paints had caused a lot of
damp to build up inside
the walls, damaging the
plaster and wood. In many
places moisture was trapped
behind the paint.
Internally, the walls are
either lath and plaster or
lime plastered stone, both of
which are being repaired or
renewed as necessary with
lime plaster.
