Aggregates for Resin Bound Paving Resin bound surfacing is the act of mixing aggregates and resin together before laying the resulting product, and is becoming increasingly popular in the landscaping industry due to the attractive, long lasting and permeable finish it provides. Long Rake Spar supply a comprehensive selection of dried aggregate granules in a wide range of colours and sizes, specifically produced for use in resin bound surfacing systems. We generally find the most popular sizes of stones for this application are 1-3mm, 2-5mm or 3-6mm. Using the smaller sized stones ensures the surface will have a smoother appearance, and many contractors choose to include one of our kiln dried sands in the mix as an anti-slip measure. With such a variety of projects available within the resin surfacing sector our naturally sourced products cater for every eventuality and offer a broad spectrum of different colours with the option of colouring aggregates for more bespoke enquiries. With different applications requiring different levels of durability, it is important to make an informed choice when choosing the stone. Our Grantex brochure provides a performance index for all of our dried aggregates, helping to simplify the process and remove the risk of choosing an unsuitable product. Resin bound paving is a great choice for swimming pools, pathways, patios and driveways and we were recently involved in the refurbishment of a large drive in the beautiful town of Knutsford. SureSet’s experienced approved installers Coatech were contacted in July 2019 from a family who had suffered the failures of an inferior resin system which had been installed on their large driveway. The clients liked the principle of a Resin Bound Paving solution with its properties of a seamless, smooth, hardwearing finish. However the inferior system left their driveway cracked due to movement of an insufficient base, plus the final surface had yellowed due to inferior aggregates and resin blend. 102 With a combination of SureSet’s product that uses specialist aggregates from Long Rake Spar and comes with a 21-year guarantee, alongside the extensive experience from the SureSet Approved Installer Coatech, the client’s confidence in resin bound paving was re-built. For this project, Coatech installed 155m² of their 6mm Barley Butter at an 18mm depth which complimented the surrounding railway sleepers, patio slab edging and vibrant green shrubs. The driveway at Mia House has ample space for multiple turning vehicles which the SureSet Resin Bound paving is designed to withstand. www.longrakespar.co.uk
