Hughes was founded 1921 in Lowestoft.
Originally the company rewound industrial
electrical motors for Lowestoft’s fishing fleet
but in 1928 the first retail shop was opened
that built, repaired and sold radios. To this
day Hughes remains a true family business
under the third generation of ownership.
Hughes has now expanded its retail outlets
to 42 branches throughout East Anglia and
the West Midlands and is the 4th largest
electrical specialist retailer in the UK.
At Hughes we have always been quick
to embrace new technology and in 2013
Hughes Smart Home was launched. Our aim
is to sell, design and install affordable smart
home technology solutions to customers
throughout East Anglia. Last year we
opened our first Smart Home showroom
in Ipswich where we showcase the latest
technologies from Loxone lighting, heating
and security systems to home cinema,
multi-room audio and 4K video distribution.
