Luciano Micallef presenting the Malta Architect Award 2016 for Interior Design Projects to periti
Sarah Calleja and Alexia Gingell Littlejohn
Alexia explained that although everyone was very profes-
sional yet there were times when they physically couldn’t all
fit into the small space to work together. “The programming
of the contractors - coordinating them all to work togeth-
er - turned out to be the main problem,” she explained.
Sarah added that they always were aware that delays of any
sort would be costly to their client because while the works
were ongoing their client was renting alternative premises
in the interim. “There was this cost factor to consider all
the time too”.
At the same time the combining of the works for the
staircase and their materials meant getting experts in
joinery and in metal work to somehow collaborate together
to go for the finished product we wanted,” she continued.
All elements have to

ute to the end result. It’s a

DESIGN&BUILD
Sarah and Alexia put their success down to one basic
detail – motivation. “We can do so much w ith so little!”
they concurred. “We look at a project from a holistic
point of view – from the construction to the finishing and
interior design. Everything is linked. We plan from the
initial sketches to the final product so that they work, both
technically and aesthetically. All elements have to come
together to contribute to the end result. It’s a sort of A to
Z approach” they said.
